NextGen EDR

Answer Every Dental Call at Your NextGen Health Center

NextGen's dental product is NextGen EDR, the Electronic Dental Record, and it lives inside NextGen Enterprise rather than the small-practice NextGen Office product. It is sold to community health centers, tribal health centers and integrated care facilities.

Health centers on NextGen EDR run dental beside medical and behavioral health on one shared schedule — and one overloaded phone queue. GetHelpdesk.AI answers dental calls in English and Spanish, books into the right dental column, and routes urgent pain on your protocol.

  • HIPAA compliant & BAA-backed
  • Live in about a week
  • No new phone system
  • 24/7 Dental answered, never queued behind medical
  • 25+ Languages detected automatically on the call
  • Per site Hours, protocols and routing configured per location

Key benefits

Why NextGen health centers add GetHelpdesk.AI

Dental sits inside a medical phone queue that was never designed for a toothache.

Dental comes out of the medical queue

Point the dental number at the AI and dental stops being the lowest priority on a shared switchboard.

Bilingual by default

25+ languages detected on the call with no menu and no transfer, in exactly the communities where language is a documented barrier to dental access.

Books into the dental column

A limited oral evaluation is not a fifteen-minute medical visit.

Nobody else is building for this

NextGen's own API marketplace carries multiple AI voice applications and no dental application at all.

Triage that knows dental urgency

Pain, swelling and trauma follow the escalation path your dental director sets, rather than being logged as a generic message alongside a prescription refill.

HIPAA compliant, BAA backed

PHI encrypted in transit and at rest under role-based access, with a Business Associate Agreement signed before go-live.

Setup

How we connect to a NextGen dental programme

Coverage starts on the dental line. Integration depth is scoped with your team, because NextGen gates commercial API access.

Start setup
  1. 01

Point the dental line at the AI

This does not wait on any integration. Your dental number routes to us, and answering, triage and structured capture start immediately.

  2. 02

    Configure your dental rules

Visit types and durations, operatories, hygienist and dentist availability, your triage protocol, and your sliding-fee and coverage answers.

  3. 03

Scope API access with your team

NextGen runs a developer program with tiered access, and commercial third-party access sits in the distributor tier.

  4. 04

Pilot on one site, then extend

Start with a single clinic, review real transcripts with your dental director, tune the triage, then roll out across the organization.

What the AI can do inside NextGen Enterprise

Exactly what is read, written and escalated. Anything marked partial is confirmed during setup against your own NextGen Enterprise configuration.

Core features

Built for NextGen Enterprise front desks

  • Dental-only answering

The AI answers as your dental clinic, not as a general health center switchboard.

  • Real dental appointment types

Recall, limited evaluation, perio maintenance and emergency slots are distinct, and booked as such.

  • Per-site configuration

Different hours, protocols and coverage answers for each clinic in the organization.

  • Structured requests when writes are out of scope

A complete booking request for your team rather than a callback list.

  • Transcript and summary on every call

A written record for the dental team specifically, not buried in a shared inbox.

  • Unlimited simultaneous callers

Monday morning does not produce a dental hold queue.

  • Language access

A documented barrier to dental access, answered on the call.

  • The dental gap

NextGen's marketplace has AI voice apps and no dental app.

  • Whole-person model

    Configured for medical-dental integrated organizations.

In practice

Calls NextGen Enterprise practices stop losing

01

Dental last in a shared queue

One switchboard, four service lines

A patient in pain calls the main health center number and waits behind primary care and pharmacy. They give up.

Dental was always the queue people gave up on. We could see it and could not staff around it.
02

A caller who does not speak English

Language as an access barrier

A parent calls about a child's toothache and the only bilingual staff member is with a patient. Previously that call became a callback that may never connect.

A callback in the wrong language is the same as no callback.
03

A broken plan on a Wednesday afternoon

The reachability half of no-shows

Transport falls through and the patient calls to move their appointment. If nobody answers, the visit simply becomes a no-show.

Most of our no-shows tried to tell us first.
FAQ

NextGen Enterprise questions, answered

Still not sure how it would work on your schedule? We will walk through your own NextGen Enterprise setup on the call.

Ask us directly
Does NextGen have a dental module?

Yes — NextGen EDR, its Electronic Dental Record. NextGen's documentation places the EDR module inside NextGen Enterprise EHR and PM, not the small-practice NextGen Office product.

Is NextGen dental part of NextGen Office or NextGen Enterprise?

NextGen Enterprise. NextGen Office is the cloud EHR for independent practices under ten providers, and its published specialty list does not include dental.

Who actually uses NextGen for dental?

Community health centers, tribal health centers and integrated care facilities — NextGen's own dental page names those three. It is a whole-person-care platform, so dental sits beside primary care and behavioral health rather than standing alone.

Does NextGen include an AI receptionist?

NextGen's API marketplace lists several third-party AI voice vendors, but none of them is dental-specific — the marketplace has no dental application at all.

Can an AI receptionist help with dental no-shows at a health center?

It can address the reachability half of the problem. Published research finds reminder calls alone move health center no-shows by roughly two percent, because the real barriers are lead time, transport and language.

How quickly can we start if the API scoping takes a while?

Answering can start well before any integration is finalised. Pointing your dental line at the AI needs nothing from NextGen — you get triage, language coverage and structured booking requests from day one.
